Introduction to the CEPThe Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Austin Health is one of the leading international epilepsy centres. It was established in 1978, the first such centre to be created in Australia. Our multi-disciplinary team provides internationally-leading patient care, integrated with research. A large number of staff work in the CEP, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, psychiatrists, nurses, EEG technicians, neurophysiologists, researchers, and administrative staff. We assess and treat people with new onset epilepsy, and people with established epilepsy. We have special facilities for both adults and children. We are pleased to be part of the Victorian Epilepsy Centres (Alfred Hospital, Austin Health, Monash Medical Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and St Vincents Hospital) and the Children’s Epilepsy Program. Epilepsy patient care at Austin Health is provided through a combination of Outpatient and Inpatient services. One patient’s personal account of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Austin Health was eloquently described at the 2007 meeting of the International Brain Research Organisation in Melbourne and has kindly been made available for you to read on this website.
